This is the perfect crispy waffle recipe for an early morning. No we will not be whisking any egg whites in this recipe. I know you saw that recommended on many crispy waffle recipes because that was my same issue when I was looking for a quick easy crispy waffle recipe. Whisking egg whites into peaks is just something I do not imagine doing first thing in the morning. Then on the other side soggy waffles are absolutely the worst even if they have good flavor. So if you haven’t guessed, I need both, I need them to be crispy but yet have a soft center and have tons of flavor.
Who else wants the same? At least we’re on the same page
Theres 3 key things to do to get a crispy waffle.
- Key Ingredient: Cornstarch yes, cornstarch. I tried different recipes to get down to the actual amount of cornstarch I needed for the crisp that I liked.
- Wait Time: Another big factor was letting your batter sit, you have to let these sit for at least 20 to 30 minutes. When I was in college, I couldn’t wait to go downstairs to get these Belgian waffles. They always had these in little styrofoam cups with lids, that would sit off to the side of the waffle maker, full of this amazing smelling waffle batter. Fresh waffles you can make every morning. I never knew having the waffle batter sit, really made those waffles perfect. Now, These aren’t the waffles I had in college. I haven’t figured that recipe down just yet but it is definitely part of my mission but these come pretty darn close.
- The Waffle Maker: This is the last one that I found out really mattered. I tested this exact same recipe with different waffle makers and the little cute ones did not pass the test. The Hamilton Beach waffle maker is the one. I have one that was at Walmart that wasn’t too expensive but I do want to upgrade mine. Now that I know. Once I do I will be updating this post.
The waffle Makers I tested:
Hands down do the Hamilton Beach One
